Ingredients
- 1 1/4 c all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 1/4 c shortening
- 1 block cream cheese, softened
- 2 c shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 lb mild or hot sausage
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- Using a pastry blender, cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Add the cream cheese, cheddar cheese, and raw sausage. Mix with your hands until you no longer see any bits of dry mix.
- Using a small cookie scoop, or a rounded tablespoon measure, scoop the mixture and roll each into 1- to 1½-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet, 1 inch apart.
- Bake until browned, 25 to 30 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through.
- Transfer to a paper towel–lined plate to drain for a minute.
- Serve warm.
