  • Category:

Ingredients

  • 6 shortcakes
  • 2 tbsp. butter, melted
  • 1 tsp. turbinado sugar
  • 4 c fresh berries (mixed or all one kind), rinsed and drained
  • 2 tsp. white sugar, or more if the berries are not sweet
  • Whipped cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Crumble the shortcakes onto a baking sheet and sprinkle with the butter and turbinado sugar. Bake about 15 minutes, or until crunchy and golden brown. Let cool on the sheet on a cooling rack.
  3. If using strawberries, cut in quarters. Sprinkle the berries with the white sugar and refrigerate for up to 2 hours.
  4. Layer your trifle in a glass bowl. Start with a layer of whipped cream, then berries, then shortcake. Repeat, using up the ingredients. Finish with a layer of whipped cream and the small crumbs that remain from the crumbled shortcakes. Serve immediately.
