Ingredients
- 2 tbsp. olive oil
- 1 Vidalia onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 tsp. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. kosher salt, divided
- 2 tsp. minced garlic
- 1 c sour cream
- 1/2 tsp. onion powder
- 1/4 tsp. black pepper
- chopped scallions, for topping
Instructions
- Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat and add the onion, sugar and ¼ teaspoon of the salt. Cook, stirring, until the onions are golden brown and caramelized, approximately 12 to 15 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for 2 more minutes. Let cool.
- Combine the onion mixture with the sour cream, onion powder, pepper and remaining ¼ teaspoon salt.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning as desired.
- Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
- The remaining sauce can be refrigerated for up to one week.
